The Victorian Government requires that fees and charges are regularly reviewed to allow for increases to the Consumer Price Index. Under s.2.6.21 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, the fees are fixed for 12 months by the Minister Responsible for the Teaching Profession. The Minister has approved a new Schedule of Registration Fees for 2011-12 (see below). These increases were published in the Victorian Government Gazette of 3 June 2011.
A late payment processing fee of $30 will apply if a teacher hasn't paid their invoice by the due date. Please also note that if a teacher requires a replacement registration card a processing fee of $22 will apply.

Frequently asked questions about fees
1. How is the registration fee changing?
The annual registration fee for teachers who wish to maintain their Victorian teacher registration is increasing by $2, from $72 to $74.
During 2011 the renewal of registration and payment of the annual registration fee will align to the common date of 30 September 2011. Such alignment is consistent with amendments to the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 that commenced on 1 January 2011.
In the lead up to 30 September 2011 you will receive your next annual invoice. This invoice will contain a credit for any proportion of annual fee that you may have already paid under existing legislation.
2. Why are you increasing the fee?
The amount of the registration fee is reviewed each year, in line with the Victorian Government requirement for regular indexation of regulatory fees and charges. The Institute, like all individuals and businesses, must cover increases in salaries and costs but aims to keep the increase as low as possible.
3. What is the late payment processing fee?
The late payment processing fee is a fee of $30 to help cover the administrative costs of processing late payments. A late fee will apply to teachers who haven’t paid their invoice by the due date. The late fee has not increased.
4. Why are you charging a late payment processing fee?
Late payment of fees has become an increasing problem for the Institute over the last few years, placing an added strain on our resources and budget.
5. Isn’t the late fee just a revenue raising exercise?
The late fee only applies to teachers who haven’t paid their invoice by the due date. We would prefer teachers to pay their invoices on time, and not be charged a late fee.
6. What happens if exceptional circumstances prevent me from paying on time?
If you notify us in writing of your exceptional circumstances such as extended illness, we will take your circumstances into consideration. Circumstances such as extended holidays will not be considered for exemption of the late payment processing fee.
To maintain your registration, we advise you to pay all outstanding fees. If an exemption is approved, you will then be sent a refund of the late payment processing fee.
To seek an exemption to the late payment processing fee, email your reasons to exemption@vit.vic.edu.au.
7. What is an assessment of qualifications?
Qualifications assessments are separate from registration assessments. They can be undertaken to determine eligibility for registration, eligibility for entry into teacher education courses, or to determine teaching areas for prospective teachers.
8. Why are my fees due 30 September this year?
During 2011 the renewal of registration and payment of the annual registration fee will align to the common date of 30 September 2011. Such alignment is consistent with amendments to the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 that commenced on 1 January 2011.
You will be required to pay the current invoice in full. This invoice contains a credit for the proportion of the annual fee that you have already paid. You will receive your next annual invoice in the lead up to 30 September 2012. A letter is enclosed with your invoice to explain this.
