Check if a teacher is registered and update staff listing

Since January 2004, principals have been able to access a secure Internet-based online facility, vitonline, using unique login details provided by the Institute. The value of the facility is that it enables principals to confirm:

  • the current registration status of all teachers at their school
  • the current registration status of a teacher they wish to appoint to the school, and
  • that a beginning teacher has been granted provisional registration and can start teaching.

This facility also allows principals to record the details of teachers now teaching at their school who are not listed in the 'Teacher List' page(s)', or to remove a teacher who does appear in that list, but is no longer teaching at the school.

When principals (or their authorised delegates) enter the site, they will be prompted to enter a user name and password. The last four digits of the user name is the school number and the password is five randomly generated characters.

The Institute has provided principals with their unique user name and password to access the facility. If this information has been mislaid, please ring the Principals' Hotline on 1300 650 375.

In addition to the online facility, principals can check the registration status of a teacher by asking to see their current registration card or by ringing the Principals' Hotline on 1300 650 375.

Access the school portal.

Permission to teach

The Institute Council approved changes to the Permission to Teach Policy on 13 October 2010. These changes are effective from 1 January 2011.

Under the policy, sports coaches, instrumental music instructors and other instructors whose duties related to co-curricular or extra-curricular programs are not required to hold permission to teach.
