Recommending full registration to experienced teachers

Provisionally registered teachers who have taught for 80 or more days as a qualified teacher, prior to registering with the Institute, may be recognised as experienced.  Experienced provisional teachers can apply for full registration by completing Part B (Professional Practice Report for Experienced Teachers).

The Institute generally considers primary, secondary and special school experience, but will also consider teaching experience gained by qualified teachers in higher education, TAFE, pre-school education or allied educational fields.

The Professional Practice Report for Experienced Teachers (Part B) includes a recommendation to be completed by a recent principal or their delegate based on evidence which demonstrates the teacher's competence in the areas of professional practice defined in the standards of professional practice for full registration.  Before endorsing this application, the principal must be satisified that the experienced provisionally registered teacher has provided sufficient evidence that the standards have been met or exceeded.

For some examples of evidence that can be considered within each of the areas of Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement, refer to the end of the Professional Practiice Report for Experienced Teachers.

Before submitting this application to the Institute, it is recommended that a copy of this document should be retained on the teachers personnel file.
